ADNZ Highly Commended

"It has been a really easy, relaxed and enjoyable experience working with Barry who understood our vision from day one! He was able very quickly to encapsulate in 3D what we were imagining and to create a design that is unique to us -  aesthetic and functional, and which the architectural builders were able to work well with. Barry was genuinely interested in our project and has been a great communicator during and since construction."

Located within a quiet leafy residential suburb, the owners requested a simple, classic design for their single story easy care dwelling, with a modern interpretation to contrast with the classic heritage red brick wall.

Within the relatively narrow constraints of the 11m wide site, the layout was designed to create an open, sun-filled and light feeling to the interior, and positioned to provide as much outdoor space as possible. The home feels like it's a part of the garden, drawing adults, kids and dogs alike outside.

Floor to ceiling glazing and sliding doors to both the rear yard and courtyard allow the house to be opened up, while full-height windows on both sides of the living area give the illusion of one continuous space.

Throughout the design the house maintains a compact footprint that is balanced by generous ceiling heights and visual connection to the exterior courtyard spaces. The informal and relaxed layout was created to be a testament to small living in suburbia; strong and simple forms, a natural, light and clean palette whilst moderating privacy and outlook with the surrounding neighbourhood.
