"Back in 2016 we met Barry via a work colleague, just after we had purchased the site for our house in Waikuku. We Looked at a couple of his previous projects and knew we liked the look and feel of his previous designs. When our design was eventually developed, I still remember the day Barry presented the concept. Our Waikuku batch idea had become a stunning home. It was amazing how much of our thoughts were encapsulated in that initial design, so much so that there were surprisingly few additions or alterations made to the initial concept.
Barry and his team were very accommodating, professional and easy to work with. Our Son was the builder of the project for us and he too has commented on how much he enjoyed working with Barry. So much so that we are looking to use Barry again on our latest project. Personally I can’t recommend Barry and his team highly enough and the quality of his work shows through in the designs he produces."
Nestled among an eclectic array of bach-style homes in this small coastal enclave, this modern interpretation of a classic beach house is filled with light throughout the year and provides for generous entertaining on lazy summer nights. Strong and simple forms, blended with a basic palate of materials provide a secure barrier against the elements, resulting in a considered response to creating a casual and relaxed style of comfortable coastal living.
The ground floor layout provides the main living and master suite, optimised for all day sun and natural light, with additional bedrooms and bathroom on the upper level for when friends and family come to stay. The light-filled staircase is at the heart of the design and creates a sense of space to a relatively modest footprint.
The overall simplicity of the design is a considered response to creating a casual and relaxed style of comfortable coastal living.
