TE HUNA

The Te Huna development in Roxburgh, nestled in the heart of the South Island, is an exciting and unique project for us to be part of. As part of a collaborative team, we were involved with designing a luxury resort-style development featuring various cabin and pod arrangements, offering different levels of accommodation.

 

The design draws inspiration from traditional farming sheds and shearing barns, incorporating strong, dynamic forms. The resort's material palette includes weathered corrugated steel and sharp crisp timber detailing, creating a striking contrast that blends with the rugged beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Situated along the expansive Clutha River and adjacent to the local cycle trail, the site offers stunning views but also presents challenges with its high wind speeds and intense sunlight.

 

Our next stages include designing treehouse cabins, a modern woolshed-style reception, and guest services—projects we’re incredibly excited about. With off-site prefabrication and off-grid capabilities integrated into the design, Te Huna is not only visually compelling but also environmentally conscious. By using a modern yet sensitive palette of materials, we've ensured that the design reflects both the luxury aspect and the natural tones of the surrounding area.
